AVASTIN is an anti-cancer medicine that contains the active substance Bevacizumab. It is used alone and in combination with the other chemotherapy drug for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, kidney cancer, cervical cancer, epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer, cancer of colon and rectum. It belongs to the group of medicines called monoclonal antibody that targets a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) which is found on the lining of lymph and blood vessels. Inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) limits the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the tumour, causing it to shrink or cease developing. As a result, it slows down the rate of progression of cancer.
Inform the doctor if you have or have ever had Tuberculosis or any active infection, bleeding disorders, injury, GI perforation, fistula formation, proteinuria, thromboembolic disorders, diabetes, hypertension or heart problems, dental problems, kidney problems and liver problems (such as hepatic injury).
Inform the doctor about all your medical conditions, prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamin supplements, herbal medications, since AVASTIN can interact with them. AVASTIN can cause an allergic reaction in some patients therefore it is necessary to read the complete composition list and consult the doctor in case of any ingredient that induces allergies. This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sun, so it is better to use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors.
Consult the doctor if you are planning, on a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
It is advisable to avoid driving and operating heavy machinery during the course of AVASTIN.
Indications of AVASTIN Injection
AVASTIN indicated for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, kidney cancer, cervical cancer, epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer, cancer of colon and rectum.

Directions for Use
AVASTIN is given as an injection under the skin or as an intravenous infusion. The dosage and duration of treatment will depend on the individual’s condition and response to the medication and should be determined by the doctor.
Your doctor will decide the dose and frequency of administration based on your health condition.
A trained healthcare doctor/Nurse will administer AVASTIN. So, do not self-administer.
Storage
AVASTIN Injection should be stored in refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C. Do not freeze. Do not shake.
If you are traveling, carefully follow all patient instructions for storing your medicine during travel.Avoid extreme heat or cold.
Keep in the original container to protect from light and moisture.
Keep AVASTIN Injection out of sight and reach of children.
Common:
- Constipation

- Nose bleeds
- Dry skin, flaking, skin inflammation, and skin colour changes
- Change in speech
- Change in taste
- Voice changes/hoarseness
- Loss of body weight
- Numbness in hands or feet
Serious:
- Severe allergic reactions
- Delay in Wound Healing
- Change in Vision
- Headache
- High Blood Pressure
- Anaemia
- Vision changes
Tell a doctor or nurse straight away, if you notice any of the side effects above.
Contraindications
AVASTIN Injection is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to AVASTIN or any of the excipients.

AVASTIN might interact with other medicines. Therefore, it is recommended to inform your doctor about all the prescriptions you have.

Avoid alcohol consumption while taking AVASTIN as it might cause increased dizziness and worsen any liver-related side effect. Consult your doctor if you have history of Alcohol intake.

AVASTIN Injection is not recommended for use in pregnancy as it may harm your fetus. Hence, if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy, inform your doctor before taking AVASTIN Injection. Using effective birth control methods while on treatment is suggested.

Avoid breastfeeding your baby while on the treatment with AVASTIN, as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding before taking this medication.

AVASTIN may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting in some patients. Therefore, avoid driving or operating machines that require mental concentration until you are not alert.
