Product Description
Jakavi is an anti-cancer medicine that contains the active substance Ruxolitinib. It is used in the treatment of myelofibrosis (cancer of bone marrow), polycythaemia vera (cancer of the blood), and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a complication of hematopoietic stem-cell transplant. It belongs to the group of medicines called kinase inhibitors, works by inhibiting the signaling of cytokines and growth factors which are essential for the formation of cellular components of blood and immune function. As a result, it helps slow down the multiplication and spread of cancer cells.
Inform the doctor if you have high blood pressure, aneurysm (enlargement and weakening of blood vessel wall), history of blood clots in your arteries, heart diseases (such as congestive heart failure, heart attack), kidney diseases (such as mild/moderate/severe renal impairment), and/or liver diseases (such as mild/moderate/severe hepatic impairment).
Inform the doctor about all your medical conditions, prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamin supplements, herbal medications, since Jakavi can interact with them.
Jakavi can cause an allergic reaction in some patients therefore it is necessary to read the complete composition list and consult the doctor in case of any ingredient that induces allergies. Indications of JAKAVI
Jakavi is indicated for the used in the treatment of myelofibrosis (cancer of bone marrow), polycythaemia vera (cancer of the blood), and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD, a complication of hematopoietic stem-cell transplant) in adults and children above 12 years of age.
Therapeutic Effects of JAKAVI
Jakavi contains Ruxolitinib, a kinase inhibitor is an anti-cancer medication. It works by blocking enzymes called Janus Associated Kinases (JAK1 and JAK2); this helps relieve the symptoms, reduce spleen size and the volume of red blood cells produced in patients with polycythaemia vera, thus potentially reducing the risk of serious blood or vascular complications. Jakavi also reduces signs and symptoms of the acute and chronic forms of graft-versus-host disease, leading to disease improvement and survival of the transplanted cells.
Directions for Use
Jakavi tablet should be swallowed whole with water and should not be crushed, chewed, or opened. The medicine can be taken with or without food. Taking these medicines regularly at the same time increases their effectiveness. A dose of this medicine should not be missed as it can affect your recovery. This medication may be used in combination with other chemotherapy medications. The dosage and duration of treatment will depend on the individual’s condition and response to the medication and should be determined by the doctor. Your doctor will decide the dose and frequency of administration based on your health condition.
A trained healthcare doctor/Nurse will administer Jakavi. So, do not self-administer.
Storage
Jakavi tablet should be stored below 30°C temperature at room temperature. Do not freeze.
If you are traveling, carefully follow all patient instructions for storing your medicine during travel. Avoid extreme heat or cold.
Keep in the original container to protect from light and moisture.
Keep Jakavi tablet out of sight and reach of children.

Ans - Jakavi may decrease your ability to fight infections and increase the risk of serious infection. Consult the doctor if you develop signs of infection such as fever, chills, sweats, sore throat, cough, sore, or frequent/urgent/painful urination.
Ans - Jakavi may increase the risk of developing tuberculosis (TB), particularly if you are already infected with TB but do not have any symptoms. Inform the doctor if you have had TB or if you experience symptoms of TB like cough, cough with blood or mucus, weight loss, weakness or tiredness, loss of appetite, chills, fever, or night sweats.
Ans - Myelofibrosis is generally not genetically inherited as this type of mutation does not affect reproductive cells.
